Shisha Embroidery

Shisha embroidery is a traditional Indian embroidery technique that involves small mirrors called 'shisha' or 'mirror work'. These mirrors are typically made of glass or plastic and come in various shapes, sizes, and colors.

Legends believe that the idea of introducing mirrors as embellishments was inspired by the twinkling stars in the sky. Embedding tiny pieces of glass into the fabric, reflects light just like the stars above. People from the Rajasthani and Gujarati communities also believed that mirrors ward off evil spirits by reflecting them away.

As this magical art form evolved, each stitch around the mirror became more intricate, symbolizing the connection between the earth and the heavens. Shisha embroidery, born from a blend of cultural exchange and a deep connection with nature, continues to dazzle and inspire, reminding us of the timeless beauty found in both the simplest and most extraordinary things.
